Nokia PC Suite has been updated to 6.85 and with the updated has come quite an ovehaul and is available from the PC Suite page. The new UI looks great and here’s a rundown of some of the new featues it brings. I’ve been beta testing it for the past few weeks and must say I find this even better than the Nseries PC Suite!
The first addition is a nifty application that allows you to Drag & Drop any file from your PC to your Nokia phone. I tried this with pictures, mp3 and video and it worked great. This feature is fully customisable. There is an option to selct the directory to which each type of file would be copied, we can also choose whether pc suite will always convert content to make it more mobile friendly. All of this is done through the new “Settings” option in menu where you can set audio & video conversion parameters and specify default location paths for Data, Music, Video and Applications files on your Nokia handset .
The second neat addition is the message preview window, that shows the latest incoming messages. It can be minimized to a small bar. A click on the message opens the Nokia text message editor giving you options to reply, forward and all the other usual functions.
For those new to PC Suite: Nokia PC Suite is a package of Windows-based PC applications developed especially for use with Nokia phones. Depending on your phone model, Nokia PC Suite lets you edit, synchronize and back up many of your phone’s files on acompatible PC through a cable or wireless bluetooth connection.

Finnish mobile-phone maker Nokia has just released a new flavor of its Nokia Software Updater software solution, namely version 2.4.5. The new iteration of the application comes towards users with support for Microsoft's Windows 7 operating system, as well as with improved USB connectivity, the guys over at Nokia Beta Labs note. “This beta release of the Nokia Software Updater will not install any pre-release of Nokia device software. If after installing you get a message ‘No software updates available,’ this means there is no new version of Nokia device software currently available for your specific product. Please note that your mobile service provider, operator or carrier may not have approved the latest Nokia device software available.” the Nokia Beta Labs states.
At the same time, the developing team says that the final release of the software solution is the one expected to include critical improvements, and that these interim releases come only with smaller bug fixes. Thus, the new flavor sports enhancements to the USB connectivity, and also comes with “What’s New” release notes, so that users are kept up-to-date with the novelties included in the application.
“Nokia Software Updater is standalone device firmware update application, targeted for users who need quick update for device firmware. Feedback received from Nokia Software Updater Beta will also benefit Nokia Ovi Suite users, because improvements will be implemented also into Nokia Ovi Suite,” the developers also note.
Most of you might have already learned that the Nokia Ovi Suite is the all-you-can-do application the Finnish handset vendor is pushing out to its users, and that it offers increased functionality, including device firmware updates, phone syncing and more. In comparison, the Nokia Software Updater is the software solution meant to offer users the possibility to quickly update their handsets via a Windows-based PC, and it can be installed on computers running under Windows XP, Windows Vista (64-bit, Home and Professional) or Windows 7.
